【家长信】黑利伯瑞致小学生家长的一封信

　　Dear primary school parents and families.

　　亲爱的小学部家长们，

　　在天津黑利伯瑞学校的小学部，精彩纷呈的两周已经过去了。为促进教师专业成长，提升课堂教学水平，9月17日至24日，在小初学部教研姜主任的组织下，开展了青年教师课堂教学展示比赛。语文、数学学科共八位青年教师积极参与了本次赛课活动，由中方高虎校长和学部贾主任担任赛课的评委。八位参赛教师潜心钻研教材，依课标、学情制定目标，精心设计教学过程，课堂上展现了各自的教学风采。此次所有参赛课，节节皆有亮点。教师们巧用多媒体突破重难点，教学扎实高效，环节过渡自然顺畅，教学活动形式多样，有拓展、有讨论、有学生表演，学生学习兴趣浓厚，参与面广。每节课后，学部贾主任和管教研的姜主任都会组织听课教师对每节课进行点评，参赛教师说课，听课教师畅所欲言，说收获，说问题，说各自对某一环节的不同看法和不同的设计。作为评委的高校长，对此次赛课活动中，参赛教师认真的教学态度及听课教师热情严谨、专业的评课给予了表扬肯定。小学部以赛课促进了教研氛围，本学期的实习老师也被扑面而来的教研之风深深感染，积极加入了听课评课试教之中，收获满满。赛课活动虽然结束了，但是带给老师的思考还有很多，小学部的老师们会且行且思。

　　It has been another exciting and eventful two weeks at the primary school in Tianjin. In order to promote the professional growth of teachers and improve the level of classroom teaching, a young teachers' classroom teaching competition was held from the 17th to the 24th of September under the guidance of Ms. Rosie Jiang (junior school director of teaching and research). Eight young Chinese and Maths teachers actively participated in the contest. Mr. Gao Hu (Chinese principal) and Ms. Vivian Jia (head of Junior school) evaluated the lessons. Our eight teachers devoted themselves to textbook analysis, goal setting and careful lesson design. However, they also maintained their own individual teaching style. There were highlights in all the open classes such as solid and effective teaching, smooth transitions, a variety of teaching activities, the skilful use of multimedia to break through difficulties and barriers, expansion, discussion and extensive student participation. After each lesson, Ms. Vivian Jia and Ms. Rosie Jiang met with the teachers to comment on each lesson. In these meetings, they discussed about each lesson and the teachers were able to speak freely about what went well and what could have been improved. They also commented from different perspectives and angles. As the lead assessor, Mr. Gao Hu praised and affirmed the teachers' earnest teaching attitudes and their enthusiastic, rigorous and professional conduct. He also commented that the competition promoted a healthy atmosphere of teaching and research which also benefitted our teaching interns who observed and listened on in the open classes. Although the contest is over, our teachers have continued to reflect on their teaching and will continue to think and improve on their pedagogy.

　　At Haileybury, we are always looking at ways to improve the English teaching and learning of our staff and students. In 2017, the English reading buddy program was established and to this day, the initiative continues to be a success as it has provided intensive English support to our students. Like last year, we are lucky to have the support of our middle school teachers and students who are listening and reading to our primary school students from years one, two and three. They are reading from the popular Oxford Reading Tree, I can read and the Step into Reading series as well as from other graded readers. Our teachers have noted the many smiles that have radiated from the faces of our children when students accomplish the honourable feat of reading a book in their second language. Many thanks to head of English - Ms. Cheryl Mckenna, lower primary coordinator - Mr. Nathan Williamson and middle school English teacher - Mr. David Broadbent for coordinating the program. The school will continue to support this important program as reading is an important aspect of language acquisition. In addition to the Middle and Primary school joint reading buddy initiative, primary school students have also been borrowing take-home readers since the second week of school. This year, we have well over 1500 books as we have added the ‘Usborne Confident Readers’ and the ‘Usborne My Reading library’ series into our reading collection. We also have childhood favourites which include The Oxford Reading Tree series (levels 1-9), Step into Reading (levels 1-3), the I Can Read series (Adventures of Biscuit, Berenstain bears, Splat Cat, Marley the Dog, Little Critters, Flat Stanley) and the American National Geographic graded readers. Students may now borrow one book at a time from their English teachers who will manage the borrowing and returning of these books. If a student would like to borrow a specific book or more than one book at a time, special permission may be granted, however, please note that if a student loses a book, the guardian of the student will be required to pay the cost of replacement before the student will be allowed to borrow again. Please look at the table below to see which international English teacher is managing the graded take home reading of your child.

　　在天津黑利伯瑞国际学校的小学部里，精彩纷呈的几周又过去了。在黑利伯瑞，我们一直在寻找提高我们的英语教学和学生学习的方法。英语伙伴阅读项目是在2017年成立的。今天看来，这个项目仍然是成功的，因为它为我们的学生提供了强有力的语言支持。像去年，我们很幸运地得到了中学师生们的支持，他们从听和读两方面对1-3年级的小学生进行帮助。他们的阅读材料来自受欢迎的《牛津阅读树》、《我可以阅读》、《阅读的步骤》系列以及其他分级阅读材料。老师们可以注意到，当学生们用英语阅读完一本书的时候，我们的孩子们脸上洋溢着灿烂的笑容。这对激发学生阅读兴趣和拓宽语言学习机会起到了很大的作用。阅读是语言发展的一个重要组成部分，未来，我们将在孩子们的课余时间推出更多阅读活动。非常感谢英语主任Cheryl Mckenna老师, 1-3年级英语协调员Nathan Williamson先生和初中英语老师 David Broadbent先生对这个项目的监督和协作。除了中小学联合开展英语伙伴阅读活动外，小学生自开学第二周以来也一直借书并把书带回家阅读。我们现在有超过1500本书。今年我们的图书馆藏书增加了《乌斯本》（第四图书馆）和《乌斯本》（第三图书馆）系列 。我们还有儿童最爱的，包括《牛津读书树》系列（1-9级）、《步入阅读》（1-3级）、《我能读系列》、《饼干历险记》、《贝伦斯坦熊》、《斯普拉特猫》、《小狗马利》、《小怪物》、《扁平斯坦利》和《美国国家地理杂志分级读者》。学生们现在每次可以从他们的英语教师那里借一本书，由他们管理这些书的借阅和归还。如果学生每次想借一本书或多于一本书，可以获得特别许可，但是，请注意，如果学生丢失一本书，学生监护人将被要求支付更换费用，然后学生将被允许再次借书。请看下面的表格，看看哪位国际英语老师在管理您孩子的分级阅读。

　　The primary school held a terrific sports meet on the 8th of October. The event was attended by senior leadership including executive principal Peter Rogerson, international principal Yanni Galanis, Chinese Principal Brian Gao, head of junior school Ms. Vivian Jia and head of English Ms. Cheryl Mckenna. Students began the day with class parades where they marched and chanted war cries. Classes had spent many hours practising their marches and war cries, so it was great to see these being performed well on the day. The sporting events began after the national anthem was sung. The program on the day included relay races (grades 1-6), tug of war competitions (grades 1-2,3-4,5-6) and boys and girls 100 metre running races (grades 1-6). It was a wonderful sports meet with the first, second and third place getters each receiving Haileybury medals on the 9th of October. Many thanks to Head of Junior school – Ms. Vivian Jia and primary school P.E teachers Ms. Lily Wei and Ms. Lemon Liu for overseeing and coordinating the successful event.

　　小学部于10月8日举办了一场精彩的运动会。参加运动会的校领导包括执行校长Peter Rogerson先生，国际校长Yanni Galanis先生，中方校长高虎先生，小初联合负责人贾志庭女士。运动会在入场式中拉开帷幕，各班高呼口号，进入会场。他们在课堂上花了很多时间练习他们的入场口号，所以很高兴看到他们在这一天表现得很好。体育比赛在国歌演唱结束后开始。当天的比赛项目包括接力赛（1-6年级）、拔河比赛（1-2、3-4、5-6年级）和男女100米赛跑（1-6年级）。这是一场精彩的运动会，第一、第二和第三名运动员分别获得了黑利伯瑞的奖牌。非常感谢小初联合负责人贾志庭女士和小学体育老师魏丽女士及刘丽春女士对此次活动的协助。
